Today we began our month long journey to Kenya, myself, along with our Ministry Coordinator - North America, Lynn Fullen. The great part of this is, Lynn also happens to be my sister, so we're going on a sibling adventure with Jesus. Stephanie, my wife, will not be going with us but will be there in spirit.
Over the next month, I will be posting a blog every couple days so you all can go on this journey with us. We are so excited to be following Jesus on this journey and are expecting Him to do mighty things through us and our team, despite our inadequacies. As the scripture states in Philippians 4:13 NASB
I (we) can do all things through Him who strengthens me (us).
We covet your prayers and appreciate all those who have donated to help up, especially our church, the Church of New Beginnings in Glade Spring, Virginia. The leadership and members have been phenomenal in helping us and we appreciate our church family so very much. We are proud to represent them as missionaries from their congregation.
Several individuals have sent gifts to various people and we can't wait to distribute those. We also were able to take a full large suitcase of donated children's clothes which will go into our Compassion Ministry's Clothing pantry. We have also received funds for medical needs and clothing needs. While there, we will be doing jigger removal, deworrming, and other outreaches as part of our "Love in Action" programs and supplying shoes to those needing them after the jiggers are removed. We are able to buy several pairs of fingernail and toenail clippers to be given out to those with jiggers, after treatment. to assure they are able to stay jigger free through proper hygiene which is part of our teaching program on prevention.
So today, we start our very long journey at 11:00 a.m., driving from Abingdon to our first flight, which is in Charlotte, NC, leaving at 6:30 p.m.. We go from Charlotte to London England (7 hours 45 minute flight), have a three hour layover, and then onto Nairobi Kenya (8 hours and 40 minute flight). We will land in Nairobi at 9:30 p.m. local time (1:30 p.m. EST) on Wednesday evening. Nairobi is eight hours ahead of our time in Abingdon. Once there. we will be met by our Director - Africa, Athanus Atimbo and we will travel to a hotel and try to get some rest. On a side note, we're having snow flurries here and when we land there, the temperature will be in the mid 60's for lows at night to low 80's during the day. Perhaps a perfect time for our trip. 😊
At this time, we have made it to Charlotte airport and through security. We just had one little issue, we had to pay $200 for two checked bags. Lesson learned though. It seems that if you fly American and your first flight is through Iberia Airlines, you have to pay for 2nd bags. If our first flight had actually been American Airlines, ours would have been free. As I said, lesson learned. 😊
Once we're safely in Nairobi we'll do another blog and keep you all updated! Thanks for joining us on this journey and for helping make it possible! I'll also be posting on the Wholly Yours Ministries FB page and my personal FB page.
If you haven't done so already, and want to donate to help us do this work, it would be very much appreciated.
