Life, in general, is a struggle in Kenya and Uganda, Africa. Many struggle just to have food for one meal a day. One of the biggest struggles for parents there, beyond just providing the necessities, is having enough money to educate their children. After our last mission trip in December, it become very apparent that one of the biggest needs is helping them provide a quality education for their children.
Both Kenya and Uganda are quickly becoming industrialized nations. Those who are children right now will need an education to compete for tomorrow's jobs or be left behind. Many children remain at home, uneducated, due to their parents' lack of ability to pay their school fees. There are no government programs there to help. In fact, one child in the church ran away from home this past week. He ran away because his parents couldn't afford to pay his fees. Fortunately, the boy was found, and with the help of Wholly Yours Ministries was able to enroll in school.
Over the last four years, thanks to the donors of Wholly Yours Ministries, we have been able to see many children and adults realize their dreams and receive a quality education. As recently as the past two weeks we've been able to help ten children enroll in various schools and one to enter college. This is all because you gave to this ministry, and I want to personally thank each one of you for giving. You're sowing seeds in good soil.
Because the need is so great, we are implementing a Wholly Yours Ministries Education Sponsorship Program. This program is for all age groups, including college, and allows donors to sponsor on a monthly basis. As a monthly donor, you will be able to choose a child you want to sponsor, or you can donate to the WYM Education Fund. We are compiling a list of children needing sponsors and will make it available to you that are interested in individual sponsorship. Eventually, if funds become available, we will start a primary school through the House of Winners Worship Center, making education, for many, even more affordable.
This brings me to my title story. You're probable asking yourself, why the title, "Never Stop Fighting"? The answer is, even with finances, sometimes getting an education is a struggle for some. Such was the case for WYM Director Athanus Atimbo's eldest daughter, Margeret. Margaret is one of the brightest, most intelligent, people I have come to know, but she really struggled the last few years of high school. Margaret started developing headaches and having seizures a few years ago, something similar to epilepsy, but she would go into a catatonic state. She was in and out of hospitals and missed a lot of school due to headaches that immobilized her. Margaret, through many tears and disappointments at times, persevered and graduated high school a few months ago. Margaret was and is a fighter and she never stopped fighting, even during some bleak periods in which most people would have quit. At times, even her teachers had given up on her.
Margaret is a very special, talented young woman and is a powerhouse for Jesus. She is very open about her faith, a powerful worship leader at the House of Winners, and is a strong leader all around. Margaret's dream is to become a journalist and television broadcaster, which perfectly fits her bold personality. We are pleased to announce, because of Wholly Yours Ministries donors, Margaret is now enrolled in a two-year program at Jodan College of Technolgy, where she will be studying journalism and mass communication. Congratulations to Margaret! Please keep her in your prayers as she still battles this illness which hasn't been fully diagnosed. Keep on fighting Margaret, we're all fighting with you.
While we were able to pay for Margaret's first quarter fees and tuition, she is one of many that need sponsors to finish out her education. We're believing that people like you, the wonderful donors of Wholly Yours Ministries, will make it possible for her and many others to achieve their dreams and change the future generations from poverty to prosperity.
