I am beyond proud of a young man who has become like a son to my wife and I, Mukisa Godfrey. I met Mukisa when he started helping Pastor David Mugabi (WYM Ministry Coordinator - Central Uganda) with music for a conference he was holding in his church. Mukisa is a talented pianist, but more importantly, a young outstanding man full of integrity and a man who loves Jesus. Today, after six months of intense study, through many sicknesses and trials, Mukisa graduated from barber school. We at Wholly Yours Ministries couldn't be more proud of him and his accomplishments and we want to thank each one of you who has given into our ministry to help him achieve this.
Mukisa's story is one of "rags to riches" and the power of prayer. Not that he's achieved riches, but he's come a long way. You see, Mukisa had a difficult life as his parents somewhat disowned him when he was only twelve years old because he surrendered his life to Jesus. Mukisa was without family and lived in a church at night for several years. The Lord used that time for him to learn how to play the piano and he also used that time to develop his strong faith. One evening, night time there, Mukisa and I were messaging each other, as we often did, and he told me the pastor had asked him to discontinue living at the church. He was staying in a house that was under construction, that didn't have a roof, and was still open on the sides. He was sleeping on an old mat and as we were messaging back and forth. As I was ending our conversation, he said, please don't stop talking to me. He said, "I'm scared, there are wild dogs and snakes and I want to stay on the phone so I'm not so scared."
Long story short, WYM got Mukisa a place to live and sent him to barber school so he could eventually earn a living and become self-sufficient. That's why today is such a monumental day, not only for Mukisa, but for Wholly Yours Ministries and personally for my wife and I. Mukisa embodies what our ministry does, help to make people whole in body, soul and spirit. When you give to our ministry, you're helping people, real people with real needs and you're being Jesus's hands and feet.
Mukisa sent me a letter today and wanted me to let everyone know how much he appreciates each one of you. I'm going to paraphrase it: "Hello Wholly Yours Ministries, praise the King Jesus. I'm here with great joy and happiness in Jesus name, am here to thank Wholly Yours Ministries, and my daddy and mom Paul and Stephanie Havens. They adopted me as their son and started taking care of me in everything, medical treatment, food, furniture, renting, a bicycle, and schooling. I started my schooling Freburary 2nd this year and I have completed it today on August 2nd. I am real happy and I don't know what to say but the good Lord bless everyone, in Jesus name. I have my certificate in barbering, but it's because of you that I have it, it was your support and I appreciate it with all my heart. I pray to God for more provisions to start my own business. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name and I love you."
Mukisa's future is just beginning and he's starting his new life by giving back. On Thursday, he will be traveling to Mbale, Uganda to be with Rev. Robert Opolot for the next month. He will be teaching piano to the person that will be playing in our newly planted church in Katekwan and also be showing the students and teacher at the Exodus Vocational Barber School what he has learned in school to help them in their careers. In the middle of that, he will be traveling to Bugiri Uganda to play piano in the crusade we're having there. Once the training and crusade are finished, Mukisa plans to return home to the Kampala Uganda area where he hopes to start his own business. This venture will take quite a bit of funding and we would appreciate anyone that could possibly donate to this cause. When you send a donation, just me know it's for Mukisa. He has a bright future. We are proud to have Mukisa as part of our Wholly Yours Ministries family, as well as a son, and appreciate deeply him providing music for our crusades, and in the future, also for conferences and revivals.
God bless each and every one of you, you're making a difference, one life at a time.
Wholly Yours in Christ,
Rev. Paul Havens
